Going through withdraw

So I've been grounded for a little while now because I'm horrible at my academic classes.  As a result, I haven't touched my computer in what feels like a eternity.  In fact, I'm only doing this post right now just to be able to use it again (I say that, and then I wonder why I'm failing my academics).  All the reasons behind it aside, I haven't been able to play osu! or any other game for that matter.  I'm pretty sure I'm going through withdraw because of this.  I get moody, I don't want to do anything, and I'm just not happy.  It's having a negative impact on my health as well. I can't play any of my games so I find myself going through the kitchen to find something to eat just because I'm bored.  I don't have my distraction any more.  The only thing I can do is watch T.V. which doesn't sound bad to some people, but I hate T.V.  Thank God for Netflix, I would have gone insane by now if there wasn't some decent stuff on there.  But it isn't quite enough, there's still a very large gap where those games should be.  I'm going to get very little sleep tonight, because I'm going to attempt to fill a bit of that hole.  Just one night of non-stop gaming.  Then go to bed at like, 4 a.m. or something.  I'll try for at least an hour of sleep or so, then hopefully a metric crap-ton of caffeine in the morning.  That should be enough to keep me going through the day.  Hopefully.  Ms. Brogden, if I'm asleep tomorrow, you know why.  Just give me more caffeine, I'll be fine.  Gif related, that's me when I try to do any work at all for my academics.

SAO

So I started watching a new anime today.  Sword Art Online, an anime about a virtual reality video game.  It's basically everything I've ever wanted from life.  Except if the whole virtual reality MMO does ever happen, I would prefer it be without all the "if you die in the game, you die in real life" stuff.  Oh yeah, that's the plot by the way.  This virtual reality game comes out and a ton of people are going to be playing it, but on launch day, the creator of the game decides "Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm a crazy douche who wants to play god so now you're all trapped until you beat the game.  Or you die.  Whichever comes first."  I love the show, but one episode, they introduce a bunch of characters only to have them die on the very same episode.  All of them.  They introduced the guys, made me like them, and then killed them off in the same episode.  I didn't even know how to feel, I just kind of felt.  The main character is a bit weird as well.  I can't quite tell if he wants to have friends or if he wants to go solo.  The one time he had some friends they all died in the same episode so I guess I would be afraid to make friends as well.  I've only watched four episodes or so, but I want to keep watching.  I believe it has 25 episodes total, so I'm probably just going to marathon it soon.  I'll be ordering like two pizzas tomorrow and finishing it.  Also its burning up in my house and my family refuses to turn on the air conditioning.  I may be slowly dying of overheating.

Oculus Rift

I think the Oculus Rift needs to be released fully to the public soon.  Because I really want to use one but I don't want to pay like $300 for one.  I really really want one.  I REALLY want one.  If you haven't heard of the Oculus Rift, I recommend looking it up.  It's basically a large step in the direction of making virtual reality possible.  There are so many possibilities with this thing.  The level of immersion this could bring to any game is astounding.  Noise cancelling headphones, plus this thing could basically send you into the game world.  You aren't playing as a character any more, you become that character.  I already get very immersed in adventure games like Skyrim and such, if I get this thing, I'm never going to see the light of day.  I would go hours without eating, and I love food so that's saying a lot.  I even do that now sometimes, just forget to eat because the game I'm so into the game I'm playing that it doesn't occur to me that my body would like some sustenance.  Unhealthy?  Probably.  But at the end of the day, I'm still healthy, so I won't be stopping any time soon.  I refuse to quit.  Especially when I upgrade my PC from a toaster to something that can run Skyrim for more than 10 minutes without crashing.  I don't need anything super fancy looking, just let me play Skyrim for a full 24 hours like I've always wanted to do.  Someday I'll be able to...someday.

Bullet Hell Shooters

I don't see enough love for bullet hell shooters in this world.  Most people just look at them and nope out of there like they just saw like 500 ghosts with herpes.  They aren't nearly as hard as they seem to be most of the time.  In most cases, a bullet can go straight through your face and you'd come out perfectly fine.  The only place that actually counts if you get hit is somewhere around the center.  Like in Touhou (my personal favorite bullet hell) its around your character's waist.  Yeah, 1000 bullets to the face is fine, but if something comes near your waist it's instant death.  It makes little sense from a normal persons's standpoint but from a game play perspective, it's the only way you could ever make it in between those little spaces between the balls of death that are coming directly at you.  Most of the Touhou games are originally in Japanese, so if you want to understand anything that's happening you have to find an English patch for it, and even then the translations are a bit...off to say the least.  Most of the dialogue just doesn't click like you'd expect it to.  But the story is weird and complicated anyway, the game play itself is the fun part.  And its when better when the soundtrack is really intense.  Touhou 7 has an amazingly intense soundtrack that fits perfectly with each boss you're fighting.  Exceed 3 also has a very intense soundtrack that's a lot more rock-like.  The music is half the fun of bullet hell shooters sometimes.  I recommend trying one, there are even a couple flash game bullet ehll shooters that are okay.  I played one called "frantic" or something like that and I had a lot of fun with it.  Granted, I only played it while at school and everything that's even remotely entertaining seems to have a fun multiplier of at least 5 when you're at school.

Binding of Isaac Hype

I'm unbelievably excited for Binding of Isaac: Rebirth.  I still play at least one game of Isaac per day, it has so much stuff in it to keep you entertained.  I can name 90% of the bosses by memory because I've played it so much.  The game is a bit off-putting at first, the fact that your starting attack is just crying and shooting your tears at enemies is strange to say the least.  Eventually it gets to the point where you can say "I just killed Satan by crying on him!" and genuinely mean that.  The story is weird, and everything except the back-story isn't very clear.  The back-story has a narration to go along with it, so you know exactly what's going on, but all the cutscenes afterwards don't have any voice over at all, leaving you to assume what's just happened in it.  Despite that, I love the game to death because of so many reasons.  It's gameplay is insanely fun and can get very tense when you have that one heart left and you're fighting this mob of weird meat zombies that want to eat your face.  The thing that keeps me hooked on it is the fact that every game you play is different.  Each floor you go to is randomly generated, the items that spawn are randomly generated, the drops you get from each room are randomly generated, EVERYTHING is randomly generated.  I love it so much.  All of the characters have their own quirks that you have to change your play style for, so if you get bored with one character, you just switch to another and suddenly the game is just different enough for you to get the feeling of change while still being able to understand what's going on. And rebirth is going to add even more characters and stuff, so I'm super hyped for it.

This "Game" Made Me Feel

A buddy a mine recommended that I play a game a while ago.  I wouldn't really call it a game, it's more of an interactive graphic novel.  The name of it is "Katawa Shoujo."  It's animu as dirt too, but I love all the japan stuffs.  Now, all he told me was that it had a really good story.  What I didn't know was that it had some adult situations in it.  Now, I don't have a problem with that, the scenes fit in very well and did legitimately add to the story line.  But when I'm playing this on a computer that's in my family room, where anyone can walk in and see what's on my screen at any time, this could potentially be a problem.  Nobody ever did walk in during one of those scenes so I was fine, but it was a bit nerve wracking.  The main plot is you're a guy who had a heart attack when a girl asked him out.  No joke, that is how the story starts.  First impression, this guy is beta as dirt.  Back to plot, you stay in the hospital for a while, giving you plenty of time to read and be depressed about the fact that you had a heart attack and life sucks.  The doctor tells you that you have some heart disease that will stay with you for the rest of your natural life.  Given this information, the doctors and your parents see it fitting to put you in a school for physically disabled students.  At first everything is sad and you're constantly bummed out about the fact that you have to go to this "special" school.  Then you start meeting people and everything gets cheery and happy and funny.  Or at least that's how it went with the path that I got.  I believe my buddy said there's an ending where you end up drinking and killing yourself or something.  I chose the happy, fall in love with no-legs girl ending.  Seemed a lot happier to me.  It's a good story, I recommend reading it if you're at all interested.  Pic of no legs girl below.

My Other Addiction

Along with my osu! addiction, I'm starting to become an addict to POSTAL 2 as well.  Can't go into very much detail because it's a rated "M" game (for very good reasons I might add) and I don't want to get into too much trouble, but I want to talk about a couple weapons in that game.  The machete in that game is god tier.  Any blade that I can throw and have it boomerang back to me is automatically a god tier weapon.  The machete, scythe, and sledgehammer are all amazingly entertaining to use.  Plus if you have a dog companion following you around when you throw the scythe or sledgehammer (because they don't boomerang back to you) the dog will go fetch it and bring it back.  It's the most amazing thing I've ever seen in anything ever.  The fact that mods are able to be installed to it which adds a ton more stuff to mess with means I'm going to be playing this game for a good amount of time.
